Audi and the VAG Parts Ecosystem
Audi is part of the Volkswagen Group (VAG), alongside Volkswagen, SEAT, Škoda, Porsche, and Lamborghini. This means a significant number of parts are shared across brands. An Audi A3 and a Volkswagen Golf of the same generation often use identical suspension components, brake parts, and engine assemblies under different branding. This VAG parts commonality is good news for Audi owners: parts are widely available and competitively priced compared to BMW or Mercedes.
Audi Part Number Format
Audi uses the standard VAG part number system: 8K0 615 601 D
- First three characters (8K0): Vehicle model code (8K = Audi A4 B8)
- Next six digits (615 601): Component group and part identifier
- Final letter (D): Revision level — D is a newer revision than A, B, C
When ordering, always use the highest revision letter available — it is the current production specification. Our catalog lists parts under their current active numbers.
Audi Genuine, Audi Original, and OES
Audi-branded parts (sold through dealers with the four-rings logo) are OEM parts. The identical components are also available as OES from Bosch, TRW, Sachs, LUK, FAG, and other VAG supplier brands. For the majority of Audi models, OES parts from these original suppliers are interchangeable with dealer-sourced OEM parts and offer better value.
Common Audi Wear Parts and Known Issues
2.0 TFSI engines (A3, A4, A5, Q5): Carbon buildup on intake valves is a known issue — genuine OEM intake manifold cleaning kits and revised PCV components. Oil consumption on early EA888 engines — genuine OEM piston ring and seal kits.
DSG gearboxes: Service kits (filter, mechatronic sleeve, fluid) must use genuine OEM specification. Aftermarket DSG service parts have a poor reliability record.
Suspension: B8 A4 front lower control arms, B8 A5 front wishbone bushes are common wear items. Genuine LEMFÖRDER (the OEM supplier) bushes and arms are the correct replacement.
Brakes: Audi's brake pad wear sensors are specific to the model and year — use genuine OEM sensors to avoid false warnings.
