Understanding Mercedes Part Numbers
Mercedes-Benz uses a 10-digit part number format: A000 890 0301. The letter prefix indicates the part category:
- A — Standard replacement parts (most common)
- B — Accessories and lifestyle products
- C, N, Q — Special categories (commercial vehicles, new stock, quality parts)

Genuine vs Star Genuine vs BlueDirect
Mercedes-Benz sells parts under three quality tiers. Genuine Parts (with the star) are OEM-identical and come with a 24-month warranty. Most Commonly Replaced Mercedes OEM Parts
Engine: Air filters, oil filters, spark plugs (for petrol engines), glow plugs (diesel), serpentine belts, coolant thermostats. The OM642 V6 diesel is known for swirl flap issues — always use genuine OEM replacements when rectifying this.
Brakes: Mercedes specifies very specific brake pad compounds for its AMG sport braking systems. Using aftermarket pads on AMG vehicles frequently causes vibration and premature wear. Genuine Mercedes or OES-equivalent pads from Textar or TRW are the correct choice.
Suspension: Air suspension components on W221 S-Class and W164 ML-Class are a common wear item. Genuine OEM struts and air springs are strongly recommended — aftermarket alternatives have poor reliability records on these platforms.
Electrical: TPMS sensors, parking sensors, door lock actuators. Mercedes electrical architecture (CANBUS) is sensitive to non-OEM components.
