Mercedes-Benz and the OEM Supply Chain

Mercedes-Benz, like BMW and Audi, builds its vehicles using components from a network of specialist suppliers. Bosch supplies fuel injection and braking systems. ZF provides transmissions and steering components. Continental manufactures sensors and electronic modules. Valeo supplies climate control and lighting. All of these parts carry the Mercedes-Benz star when sold through dealer channels — but the identical component is available from the original manufacturer at independent suppliers.

Understanding Mercedes Part Numbers

Mercedes-Benz uses a 10-digit part number format: A000 890 0301. The letter prefix indicates the part category:

The letter prefix is part of the number and should be included when searching. Our catalog accepts the full format including the letter.

Genuine vs Star Genuine vs BlueDirect

Mercedes-Benz sells parts under three quality tiers. Genuine Parts (with the star) are OEM-identical and come with a 24-month warranty. Star Genuine Parts are OES parts — functionally identical, made by the same suppliers, at slightly lower price points. BlueDirect is a range of remanufactured parts for older vehicles. For most repair work, Genuine or Star Genuine are the correct choice.

Most Commonly Replaced Mercedes OEM Parts

Engine: Air filters, oil filters, spark plugs (for petrol engines), glow plugs (diesel), serpentine belts, coolant thermostats. The OM642 V6 diesel is known for swirl flap issues — always use genuine OEM replacements when rectifying this.

Brakes: Mercedes specifies very specific brake pad compounds for its AMG sport braking systems. Using aftermarket pads on AMG vehicles frequently causes vibration and premature wear. Genuine Mercedes or OES-equivalent pads from Textar or TRW are the correct choice.

Suspension: Air suspension components on W221 S-Class and W164 ML-Class are a common wear item. Genuine OEM struts and air springs are strongly recommended — aftermarket alternatives have poor reliability records on these platforms.

Electrical: TPMS sensors, parking sensors, door lock actuators. Mercedes electrical architecture (CANBUS) is sensitive to non-OEM components.

Sourcing Genuine Parts at the Right Price

Mercedes-Benz dealer retail parts prices are among the highest of any manufacturer. Independent OEM suppliers offer the identical genuine parts — same part number, same manufacturer, same warranty — at 30–55% below dealer pricing. At BuyOEMOnline, we source directly from authorised OEM distribution in Germany and ship worldwide from Berlin. Shipping to EU destinations starts at €6.
